About Me

Hi. I’m Colby. I hope to meet you in person one day. Until then, let me tell you a little about me. Outside of being a clinical mental health counselor, I’m a husband, father, friend, enneagram 9 (wing 1), and person in recovery.

I’ve lived in Tupelo since 2013, but originally grew up in Hattiesburg, with family roots extending to the Gulf Coast. I very much enjoy being outdoors any chance I get, whether it’s chasing kids, hunting and fishing, or hiking a trail nearby or far away. I try to exercise regularly, eat (relatively) healthy, and just live simply.

Before joining the field of counseling, I served in various churches across Mississippi and Kentucky for 14 years. My last stint was at The Orchard Church in Tupelo, where I facilitated the growth of various ministries related to pastoral care and recovery. During a sabbatical season, I began to sense my calling shift to a more “marketplace ministry.” I found myself desiring further education and training in counseling, something I always loved doing in or outside of the Church. Reflecting through personal history and major life transitions, and doing my own work in therapy, I became convinced I was being summoned to take another leap of faith and go all in (again) on this one wild and precious life!

After earning my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands and attaining supervision at Tupelo MFT & Counseling, Chrysalis Therapy and Counseling was born.

When it comes to my counseling practice, I consider myself eclectic with a strong leaning towards figuring out what works best for you and what is grounded in evidence-based research. I consider myself Gottman-oriented in couples counseling, EMDR trained in trauma counseling (seeking certification), 12-step/harm reduction model-infused when it comes to recovery/addiction counseling, and a combination of CBT, Rogerian, with a little Carl Jung sprinkled in when working with individuals. If that doesn’t peg me as eclectic, you should see my Spotify playlist. Most of all, I consider it an honor to be with and hear you, to come alongside you, and work together to help you find a way forward into a life of healing and wholeness.
